An Update For My 4 Readers

Hello 4 Readers! Thanks for responding to the poll. So, I just wanted to give you an update. While finals at my school don't actually start for about a week and a half, finals work already has. So, needless to say, this blog will not be updated all that frequently. I have about 3 or 4 posts backlogged, which I'll throw up every so often when I get a minute, but besides the class where I don't actually pay any attention, I won't have time to really write any new blog posts. So, yup, no Amazing Race recap tonight because of work, and a definite decrease in blog activity for the next two and a half weeks or so (around May 13th is when we wrap up). But I will try to put up the final State of VH1 post tomorrow, with some thoughts about Daisy of Love if I get a chance to watch it tonight. Which is only a maybe, because of work. Have I mentioned I have a lot of work? Finals suck.

So....

I'm Baaaack

Oh hey the few readers I may still have! Guess what, I'm back!

But this time, I mean it. No really. I know that each and every time I say that I mean it, I let the blog go silent for a long time, but this time, folks, it's the real deal.

Welcome to Levy on TV 2.0


By which, I mean that I've got a new layout! Did you see it? I assume you did, since you're reading this post. Well, do you like it? There's also gonna be some new features starting, the first of which is right above this post! Because I am still at school, and junior year is significantly more work than those other two years I've done, I don't know how often I'll be able to post. I'm currently trying to build up a backlog of posts so that I'll have something I can post during the busy times. I'm currently aiming for like 3-4 posts a week, but that may fluctuate based on work load. Finals are fast approaching, so the blog may go a little slack then, but it'll be back over the summer.

One thing, though, reader(s), is I am gonna need your help. Mainly, your comments. See, I like writing this blog. It's a way of deluding myself into thinking my opinions matter. But if I'm writing to no one, well, then there's a much greater chance the blog will fall to the wayside. So please comment, if possible.

Well, did you miss me? Wondering who the hell I am and why I'm talking to you like you've ever been here before? Any features you want to see more or less regularly? Shows you want to see covered more often? Lemme know folks. I aim to please. And at bullseyes. But mainly to please.

Soooooooo………….

Yeah, I suck. I say I’m going to keep writing and then I never do. So I do suck. But this time, I kind of have an excuse.

I spent the last four months out of the country, and thus away from a television set.

This past fall, for the first semester of my junior year, I was studying abroad in Prague, Czech Republic. It was, in a word, amazing. Prague is a city I would highly recommend traveling to. It is such a beautiful place, you can be walking down the street and pass by a building that looks recent right next to a building that looks like it hasn’t been touched since 1700. If you ever have the chance, visit it. I swear.

But that’s only kind of an excuse, because I was still able to keep up on a bunch of shows. Which is why I will be able to post some best of 2008 lists tomorrow. Assuming I don’t flake out on it, which, I swear, I’m really going to try not to do. I know I’ve said that before, but I’m gonna make a really conscious effort to keep the blog going this spring, even if in a very limited, like once a week rundown of thoughts, capacity.

Also, I realize I kind of left that top ten countdown hanging. I would tell you the rest of the results, but since I’m gonna do the big list tomorrow, I’ll just hold off and do that one.

So, readers, if there are any of you left, I apologize. I suck. But I’m gonna try.

I’m Calling You Out: Myself

So, listen, I suck. To any of the two people who may still look at this blog, I want to apologize. I kind of, well, gave up on it during the school year. Sophomore year was kind of harder than anticipated. Plus I’m lazy. Those two things aren’t a good combination normally, but they especially aren’t a good thing when you’ve got a blog that you write in your spare time. So yeah, Levy on TV fell by the wayside.

But, Summer is here! Finals (and boy were there lots of ‘em this semester) have finished crushing my spirit. I am vegetating on my couch at home. Which also translates into me not having any more work to do. And what does not having any more work to do mean? Well, good two readers, it means I’m gonna start writing this blog again! Can I get a huzzah? No? At least some mild enthusiasm? I’ll pretty much take anything. Even a minor “Yay?” will do.

Now, I know I’ve made this promise before. But this time, I’m for real. I’m seriously gonna try. Like, put real effort into it, which, I assure you, is a BIG thing. Plus, you can expect my stream-of-consciousness recaps to return, which may make someone, somewhere happy, right? Look for those recaps starting with the return of So You Think You Can Dance, and with the premieres of my hands down favorite ever reality show The Mole and the crown jewel of my summer TV watching line-up, VH1’s “I Love Money”, which pits contestants from “I Love New York”, “Flavor of Love” and “Rock of Love” against one another for money. Just like the gladiatorial games of Ancient Rome, but with less awesome tigers and lions and more trashy people and STDs. I can’t wait.

So yeah, I’m actually gonna keep writing this time. Not just saying it, actually gonna do it. So prepare yourselves, Levy On TV 2.0, coming across the interwebs to you guys.

Thanks and No Thanks

Well, I’m a day late and more than a few dollars short, but I’ve compiled a list of things to be thankful for and things to lament this TV year:

I’m Thankful For:

Slap Bets: Not only was the original episode my favorite episode of television of the past year, but every subsequent payoff has been pitch perfect, including this most recent Slapsgiving episode.

The Writer’s Strike: I know this is surprising to see here, but as a writer who is hoping to break into TV, this strike will be key in getting fair wages for any future work I do.

Pushing Daisies: For bringing fairy tale and whimsy and quality back to primetime television. Also, for finally bringing Bryan Fuller the success he so deserves.

Alec Baldwin and “30 Rock”: For making “The Office” more than a fluke for NBC.

Rock of Love: If only for teaching me that it’s never a good idea to threaten a person with a good time. Especially if they’re a drunken stripper.

Imaginationland: For violating everything my childhood held dear, and making me love that violation.

My Readers: It makes me feel really good about myself when people read my blog. So, sentimental “aw” moment: Thanks for reading guys. “Awwwwwww”


I’m NOT Thankful For:

The Writer’s Strike: While I support what they’re doing, there’s a good chance that it’ll seriously hurt a bunch of good freshman shows.

Meredith Not Dying on Grey's Anatomy: I hate her. I hate her so much. I want to punch her anytime I’m reminded of her “Choose Me. Pick Me. Love Me” speech.

I Love New York Season 2: Because it’s nowhere near as good as season one.

The Cancellation of Studio 60: Because it had such good potential, but still couldn’t find viewers.

The Way Veronica Mars Ended: I seriously wanted to punch my TV. That’s the way they ended my favorite show?

Lorena on The Amazing Race: It takes a special something to become one of my most hated reality competitors three episodes into a season. Kudos, Lorena. Kudos.

Most Reality Shows on the CW: Beauty and the Geek and America’s Next Top Model, those I can live with. But, seriously, “The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll”? The Upcoming “Crowned: The Ultimate Mother Daughter Beauty Pageant”? The Upcoming “Farmer Wants A Wife”? Someone sold their soul to the devil for development deals…


Overall though, I’m a lot more thankful for this past year than I am sad about it. While we lost some great shows, we gained some other great ones. Good times, people. Good times.

Friday Premieres

There's only two premieres tonight of note, so this is a short one.

Moonlight: The most re-jiggered pilot of the fall season premieres tonight. It sounds a little bit like Angel, but CBS-ified. I'll give it a look because I like Sophia Myles and out of allegiance, I'll watch most anything with an alum of Veronica Mars (That'd be Jason Dohring in this one).

Las Vegas: This is my guilty pleasure show (Well, really, one of many). I know it's not particularly good, but I still watch it and enjoy it. I think it may because it embraces its inner cheesiness, just like the city it's about. Plus, its got a lot of purdy people in it. Although, I'm a little concerned that James Caan's not gonna be around this season. Nothing against but Tom Selleck, but Tom Selleck, you are no James Caan.

Yeah, and thus ends premiere week. I hope you all found which new shows and returning favorites you'll be watching. Just leave a spot open for Pushing Daisies which starts next Wednesday. You best be watching…


Also, I'd just like to thank the recent mass influx of visitors who have pushed this blog over the 10000 hit mark. I know like 80% of you stayed for less than 5 seconds (according to my stat counter, its actually 69.9%, (Hee Hee, 69) with another 13.9% staying for less than 30 seconds), but I still am overjoyed to see that that many people have stopped by even for a second to see me ramble about TV. So thanks, it means alot to me. Some more comments would be nice though, but we'll work on that in what will hopefully be many more hits to come...

As the blog is getting bigger (in terms of number of posts, visitors, etc.), I was wondering if you, the readers, had any suggestions. I seek to please with this blog, and, well, if something I'm doing is against your fancy, please comment here and give me a suggestion on how to improve it. Do you like the stream-of-consciousness lite version of writing? Do you want to see more shows covered (Believe me, this is coming anyways)? Do you want shorter recaps? For you Big Brother recap readers, do you want more Jentences? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm just a TV fan, posting my reactions and recaps and any other "r" words that are currently slipping my mind pertaining to this blog.
